"For those who love to bash the government, I would say the bad guys are the clear minority and the system itself is the problem, not the majority of talented, dedicated people trying to make it do something." I used to work for the Treasury Department myself, I imagine you were with State. Imo the biggest problem with the system is the Plum Book, every few years a new bunch of political overlords comes in, it kills morale. There were a few bad guys for sure, but I was impressed that the good guys who were career were willing to express their disagreement with the bad guys, though they had nothing to gain. A lot of people dedicated to their jobs.
