Maybe what Suma doesn't realize is that there was no great shift from WW2 to Korea. Or from Korea to Vietnam. Or Vietnam to now. Or from the Revolution to any later war. As Sherman said "War is Hell". Those soldiers handing candy bars to the German kids? Well, the scenes you saw in your movie theater were staged. They didn't tell you about American soldiers shooting surrendered German soldiers. That happened too. It just didn't make the newsreels. There are written accounts of such by eyewitnesses and participants, though. And not just from WW2.

They've ALL been inhumane and bloody and dirty. That's what war is: forcing an unwilling enemy to do your will.
