I don't think the other part of it is junk at all.

The driving force behind evolution is descent with modification. This means that the information is copied (children) but that it is not copied exactly. The main way that genes are shuffled in a non-random fashion is by sex. The DNA from the father and from the mother are lined up side-by-side and snippets from one alternated with the other are included in the new child DNA. These snippets must include whole genes or else the gene function is destroyed. Now the father and mother are different, their DNA is different, the end of a gene in the father might not be precisely the end of the corresponding gene from the mother. There needs to be some slack in the information stream so that the changover happens between genes. (Sometimes this just doesn't work and the result is usually not a pregnancy, but sometimes it results in a birth defect).

Hi Cosmic! What a pleasure to see you back! And what a typical "Cosmic" post! Your reference to music and art is really neat. Because...in the end...I think that truth IS "felt" as much as it is "known". And it will probably be a few generations before philosophy masturbates that concept...

One thing that is so strange. There is that huge dichotomy between the preaching and the beliefs of the world's best people...and the fact that we are all as self serving as the next person. I have fought for and against love and money but I was always on a side and never in the middle. Presently I am fighting for my stepdaughter. Her common-law wants half of her $400,000.00. He never contributed a penny to it. But Canadian laws (since June 30) allow "common-laws" to claim equivalent to marriage in property rights. So I really hate this punk because he is a user. But he used to be a nice guy and always helpful. Of course, he and his friends think he is justified...

The lawyers will discuss it and add their brilliance...

So even though I am a romantic and still cry to a Frost, Yeats, or Keats poem...I am aware that every organism looks to itself. Even myself. I have offered unlimited love to certain people on their terms during my life. I am not sure what the value is to me. I am only sure that it is there. I have a had a "broken heart" more than once. It has nothing to do with reason. It is strictly self interest. And not well understood. But it is very real.

When we say we love someone we are really saying that we want them.

How does it spiral down to the genes in all of my billion cells with 46 chromosomes? I think it was Pythagoras who spoke of the music of the spheres. In the bigger patterns we could be mere germs. There is nothing in a philosophical sense to suggest we are anything but. But we are germs who can thrill to "Mama Mia" in Vegas--or give a meal to a sad face walking past our home.

It is wonderful to see you here again. You always squared the circle! I am totally intoxicated right now and relying on spell check and such. So give me a little rope--OK?!

Hey Cos
Good to here from you again. Yes I'm still playing in the mud, teaching and enjoying it more than ever. I am leaving to drive my father across the country tomorrow so I may be gone for a week or so but welcome back for now. I think we have all missed your contributions. If we could just get X to come back we could have a party.
Have a great day. I'll try to get access in the middle of Saskatchewan if I can find some place that has electricity. I hear igloos have all the modern conveniences these days.

Greg
