Perhaps, but I think that in the long-run such a policy serves our nation well... better then a policy of constantly shifting short-term tactical alliances with the 'dictator-of-the-day'.

Most of the potential gains from cozying-up to Autocrats are write on sand anyway, and often come back to bite us in the ass later.

Better to be true to our core principles:

I believe that encouraging Democracies and respect for law and human rights EXPANDS the American experiment throughout the world... and that can only be good.
