It may not be half the budget but its by far the biggest line item.......it exceeds the next largest item by nearly 200%. In other words, defense is a money hog. I think its time to overhaul it as opposed to SS.

The problem areas are programs that grow, as a percentage of the budget, and GDP, not the ones that shrink.

Defense budget is shrinking in all kinds of measures, while Medicaid, Medicare, and SS are exploding.

(A good next sentence would be "But you knew that". But, given vacousity some posts on this thread - and posters, I am not sure what to think).

It isn't. We spend more on Social Security, and if we don't yet we will in the coming years spend more (eventually a lot more) on Medicare.

Also Joe was spot on when he said
