Thanks for the link which confirms what I posted. Defense was $52.6B in 1962 of the $106.8B total outlays, which is nearly 50% of the total.

During the period of 1962 and 2004, defense shrunk from 9.3% of GDP to 3.9%.


And even with that its still nearly 200% bigger than the next line item in the budget! Should make you stop and think but it won't! ;~)
