Above all, significant money is much more available for exploration of gold.

Modern diamond drilling is much more efficient. Hydraulic drills and unitized wire line rigs are mostly available from about the past 25 years. Good synthetic high wear diamonds have been available for about the last 20. It was usual to get 100 feet a shift in old style drilling. Now 350 is not uncommon. Down holes electrical methods of exploration have been developed, with an impressive hit rate. Down hole is the most mine finding geophysical technique so far developed.

As far as finding quartz vein systems go, magnetic methods today are a bit better than they were in the 1950's. Application falls a bit behind. Shear zone/sulphide isolation by IP, VLF, AFMAG and TDM can be done more effectively. Much more is known about geochem and usage to find gold by A horizon, MMI and other basic methods. IP is now a routine tool in gold exploration, seeking out the disseminated pyrite horizons that are often characteristic of parts of vein gold deposits.

What we are looking at is a refinement of what was known pre and post war.
