"I wouldn't go as far as to say that book deals are corrupt"

I think it has more to do with appearance.

Ok, what would you think of a President who gets a large sum of money, say $40 million, to go to a top economic competitor to give speeches about how great they are doing in the world a few weeks after leaving office?

I don't have a big problem with that. It seems to me you are trying to compensate for the fact that Americans are not well informed. IMO that's the fault of the American public and no one else.

If a company tries to sell arsenic by packaging it in a pretty box and by telling the public it cures people of all their ailments [by killing you.......which is left unsaid], well I can see that that is pretty bad and there should be some intervention on the part of the gov't. But if people choose to buy off on something because they get a Clinton or a Julia Roberts to promote a legitimate product or company, well all I have to say is a sucker and his/her money are soon parted.

Define "top economic competitor"; I'm not sure what you're talking about.
