I have found anecdotally that the least connected you are to the American soldiers in the Iraq, the more likely you are to want to keep fighting this war until every last insurgent is dead.

Just like you I only have anecdotal evidence, but the evidence I do have suggest that relatives of the soldiers and marines in Iraq support the effort at a rate higher then the general population.


Actually, I did a search and I don't think that is true. While they didn't survey relatives, they did survey military personnel back in November. Of the personnel surveyed, 56% approved of the war. That number is not very high and not much higher than the figure for the general population at the time even thought the percentage of those who called themselves GOP is higher in the military than in the general population. Its very likely that 56% number has gone down since that survey and the percentage of relatives and friends of the soldiers who approve of the war is likely to be less than the soldiers themselves.

Therefore, I believe my original supposition may have been correct.
