Fannie Mae earns restatement could take a year-SEC

WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - A top government accountant said on Wednesday it could take a year for troubled mortgage funder Fannie Mae (FNM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to restate financial results after a probe uncovered pervasive accounting flaws.
"While I can't put a precise time period on it, I would imagine we're talking a number of months, perhaps a year. I would hope it's not years that we're talking about," U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chief Accountant Donald Nicolaisen said in response to questions at a House of Representatives Financial Services panel hearing.
