Education points out that only 53 percent of K-12 education funding is currently spent on instruction.

From the time my children entered school, public education has been a peeve of mine. I apologize, but can't help but mention this speech was delivered the same day my wife Joyce passed away suddenly from a blood clot while at work.

Back to the point, I remember while in high school, my dad questioning me on what I was learning in school. He asked me, have you read this and have you studied that... My response was "No".... "No".... and I will never forget how he looked at me with a blank stare and asked, "What the hell are they teaching you down there?".

What he saw was a deterioration in the quality of education from the time he had been in school. I'm sorry to say I felt the same when I asked my kids if they had ever heard of the "melting pot" and they both said "No." This exemplifies the sad direction our schools have gone.
