Yes, I read it. It basically tells the story of a plan that was botched through the execution.

The point of the article is that the safety net is replaced by uncertainty. The 675 funds are a sidebar.

In Germany they have approx. 290 authorized Health Insurance companies, where your compulsory salary deduction is routed.
Big improvement from the approx. 1,500 authorized HI companies just a few years ago!!

Mindmeld, Any U.S. plan should make sure the participants don't have choices that will be bad for them.

Participants ought to know that if they toss all of their retirement money into one company, they'll likely end up just like the investors and employees of Enron.

Of course, no one is willing to teach them about diversity and risk, so once again we're left with government protecting people from themselves. I personally think more education is always preferable over a bigger nanny state, but hey, I'm a "heartless swine." ;-)
