Tokyo Stocks Rise on Tech Gains

Sun Feb 13, 2005 07:55 PM ET

TOKYO (Reuters) - Tokyo's Nikkei gained 0.9 percent by mid-morning trade on Monday as technology shares mirrored a rise in their U.S. peers, while Nippon Mining Holdings soared on a raised earnings forecast.

Banks, brokerages and steel firms were also bid higher as investors maintained a positive view on the Japanese economy following machinery orders data last week that beat market expectations.

Mizuho Financial Group rose over 2.5 percent and became the most active issue by value after Goldman Sachs added Japan's biggest banking group by assets to its current investment list and maintained its "outperform" rating.
