hate having large numbers of homeless people around.....people who end up destitute through no fault of their own.

An incredibly vexing problem with no easy or perfect solutions.

Bums & lowlifes, however, do make really good really bad examples for my grandkids. They see behavior not to emulate

Hmm. Well, that would be fine if other people's choices didn't affect me.

They will affect you in any case. The issue here concerns fundamental human rights.

Personally, I hate having large numbers of homeless people around.

Same here, but I don't abhor the homeless so much that I think myself justified in holding a gun to your head and forcing you give money to keep the homeless off of the streets. That is the issue here. It is really what is happening with Social Security taxes. When the government forces these taxes, it denies us our most fundamental right to our own lives. I don't know about you, but I personally am allergic to slavery (grin).

You are going to have homeless people, regardless of what you do. It is not government's place to force us to be charitable. Such a thing is oxymoronic anyway. Hilarem datorem diligit Deus.

Ooops. Gotta run for now. It's been nice, friend.

I understand what you are saying and while it is important to have compassion for those less fortunate, it is also necessary for people in general to develop a healthy work ethic and realize that the failure to do so will bring unpleasant consequences.
