Anyway, 4 weeks from now I'm back to CA again, 9 hrs difference in time and a lot more in style of living.

Understanding that you spend significant time in Europe and then in particular in Germany, have you ever noticed that "personal space" is so much bigger in the US?

In Europe you need to get real tight, almost touching before you feel a need to excuse yourself to pass by. In the US that happens way before getting close enough to touch.

I never saw anybody writing anything about this.

Yes, I've noticed big time. First time was on the trains......people were sitting way too close. On a nite train, they would go to sleep and fall all over you.......that hardly ever happens in the States.

In Germany, I noticed it too.........like in the central platzs watching a mime or some entertainer..........the big Germans [192+ cm] would lean on my shoulder.....they were strangers. I would get really annoyed. <g>

I am 182 cm.......average for the states but small by German standards. One time in a club people were pushing so hard I wanted to start a fight.

Yes, I have noticed.......its very hard for Americans. We do not like bad pit or bad mouth smells nor people too close to us. Its not unusual for Europeans to have bad pits and to stand too close.

But after a while, I got used to it. <g>

"have you ever noticed that "personal space" is so much bigger in the US?"

Every culture has different space requirements.

Now here in Texas the personal distance tends to be further than most. It is considered impolite to interfere with someone's ability to draw their gun quickly and smoothly...
