<<After all, it is an infringement on the rights of those who might wish to be gladiators.>>

We also no longer allow gladiatorial combat. Do you think we should bring it back? After all, it is an infringement on the rights of those who might wish to be gladiators.

If you're referring to gladiators being forced into the arena with other gladitors or lions, no, of course we shouldn't bring that back.

But as a libertarian, I see no reason why two people who wish to engage in a gladitorial contest and voluntarily and freely choose to do so should not be allowed to do it. Yes, it might end in death. So? I don't believe in laws against suicide by people rationally capable of choosing suicide either. The only thing is that if people choose to engage in gladitorial contests and get seriously injured or hurt, they shouldn't be allowed to look to the public to pay their medical bills or support them on welfare for the rest of their lives if they get hurt.

But as long as they bear the consequences of the decision themselves, and as long as they freely and voluntarily decide to engage in gladitorial combat, why not?

By the way, Laz, the post you pointed to here,

Message 21048449

clearly contradicts your assertion you made in another post that I said any relationship between a 12 year old and a 30 year old should be permitted.

Specifically, you claimed that ". Your original thesis was there was NO PROBLEM with a 30+ year old teacher having sex with a 12-year-old student."

But what this post said was very different:

AS wrote: Do you believe a 12 year old is able to intelligently consent to having sex with someone 20 years older than he is? Someone in a position of influence and authority over him?

CH replied: I do believe some 12 year olds are, yes. Whether this one was I can't say. Not enough facts. But I have known 12 year olds perfectly capable of making mature decisions at that level.

If you still believe I said what you claim I said, please cite to the post and I will address that question fairly and honestly. But people are upset enough about this without your attributing to me things I didn't say.
