Almost nothing is more stunning about 9/11 than the complete ignorance and superstitous bogeyman theories of the American public. One must assume that our churches, Fox News and the sly way that Bush and Cheney continually conflate Saddam Hussein and 9/11 have a lot to do with this brainwashing of the gullible public.

HARRIS POLL -- February 18, 2005

Iraq, 9/11, Al Qaeda and Weapons of Mass Destruction: What the Public Believes Now, According to Latest Harris Poll --

More surprising perhaps are the large numbers (albeit not majorities) who believe the following claims not made by the president and which virtually no experts believe to be true:

-- 47 percent believe that Saddam Hussein helped plan and support the hijackers who attacked the U.S. on September 11, 2001 (up six percentage points from November).
-- 44 percent actually believe that several of the hijackers who attacked the U.S. on September 11 were Iraqis (up significantly from 37% in November).
-- 36 percent believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. invaded (down slightly from 38% in November).

Ray > I'm really quite surprised you don't take offense to this odious scoundrel as I have

On the contrary, as a thread participant I will show him the same courtesy as I will anyone else. As I mentioned before, I'm a guest at SI and it's not for me to be rude to anyone, as I note many Americans are to each other. Furthermore, even though I don't really understand his agenda, from time to time he has made posts which I agree with. He also says he is a libertarian and I respect those views.

Yes, I imagine he must have seen the refs I post, certainly most of them, because they are readily available and it's clear he keeps a library of bookmarks. So, although it requires a bit of homework to find them it doesn't matter -- if he has seen them maybe others haven't and it also gives me a chance to be sure of the argument in my own mind.
