Academic Scientists' Careers

If you look at the respective "bell curves," the median is about the same for both sexes, but the tails are longer on the men. They have bigger extremes at both ends. This means there is a larger pool of extremely good math types among men, although they are just about the same in the middle. The men also have more who are very bad than women.

"that female scientists and engineers are less successful than their male counterparts in traveling along the academic career path."

Sure. Like Rosalind Franklin and
Barbara McClintock. Women are
just necessary to sustain the species
and let their male counterparts take
the credit. Think that may have something
todo 'bout getting the same tenure track-
maybe mix alittle politics and elbow rubbing
in too. Can't these smart people do something
better with their talents than write these idiotic
reports. Never mind I see its from the government.
