As Russia began to run into financial difficulty, everything was cut Yes that happens when you become an economic basket case. But communist countries can and do keep forcing money to stupid things much longer than capitalist countries can. Eventually things might fall apart and almost everything gets cut but before that they push money in to inefficent and loss making investments for decades. What do you think we are doing with defense? Why do you think we have run such high deficits since WW II? SS is not the problem; defense is. The only thing that is different between us and the Soviets is that we are less corrupt and more efficient. Its going to take us longer to fall apart. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is moving ahead. ted
