Taiwan is a matter of principle. China is an anuthoritarian state that has liberalized its economy but is also one that is rattling its sabres frequently these days. Taiwan is part of china and that is something that needs to be resolved peacefully. The interests of the US and Japan in the region are not chopped liver. Will the train the euros are getting become the appeasement train or perhaps the COWTOW Express? China needs strong friends who tell will her when she is acting boorishly as well as when she is acting well. Why does it always seem that every nation behaves well in GSTs world except the US?
