<Haven't you heard about the antiviral stockpiles (yet another media myth)>

Henry, it seems we are as naked as the day we were born. The protections, if they exist, are not much more than a fig leaf. But we do have the wherewithal to come up with the goods.

We are cutting it fine though, hoping to squeak through the current flu season without a pandemic, with a vaccine being invented for next season. We could well be a day late and a dollar short. There's no double our money back guarantee that next season will see suitable vaccines either.

If H5N1 avian influenza arrived without an available treatment, I would place my personal bet on interferon-alpha.
