As this is the Kerry thread, I'm compelled to point out that Kerry had the same policy with regard to Iraq as Bush has. He supported the elections, committed to keep the troops there as long as necessary and wanted to work through Europe to deal with Iran.

That said, the current policy is hardly stupid (as Kerry is not stupid), although it could have been executed a little better.
