Oh, one possibility just occurred to me. If we didn't do it that way and you hit the "new posts" number and read all the way through, but 10 new posts had been written while you were reading, you'd go back to your SubjectMarks and see 10 new posts. One's you just read. isn't this the old way? and isn't it what you want, to see the new posts created while you were reading? I think the problem is that the counter is reset when you click "submit." btw, when you are responding to a post in the middle of a batch you are reading, you know to go back and start reading again at the post you responded to. it is only when you are responding to the last post in a batch (and others have been newly written before you're done reading) that it is a problem.
