sorry, I mean writing, not reading.

If memory serves, the new posts count is reset when you hit the new posts number

that's fine. the problem is that posts written by others while you are responding aren't seen. it has to be that the new post counter is again reset when you hit "submit."

it worked fine on the old platform and doesn't on the new one.

For that scenario, it seems to me the reset should only happen if your own post is the only "unread" post in that thread ... and only if you got there because of clicking the Submit button.
