There is another reason mentioned by John Mauldin in Bull's Eye Investing that might be more important. It has to do with long term security of the US and the demographics of the Islam nations . These guys are having lots of children . In the chapter Demographics is Destiny he mentions that the middle east , the US and the rest of our species will be better off in the future if democracy takes hold in Iraq . Wars are usually started by the young and intolerant and directed against the older and attempting to be mellow crowed . jack
