Ho, ho, ho, ho, I can't believe you posted this as one of the three good things about Bashar! If that's the best he can do, believe me, he stinks! Bashar is the HEAD OF THE COUNTRY, thus should be held to the highest standard as possible when evaluating his performance. Being better than his lousy father does not deserve commendation since being a lousy leader is not OK just because its better than being a really lousy leader. Yes, Bashar is the head of the country. However, do you know when he solidified that position? I don't. His father died in 2000 and he took over. Given the nature of the ME, do you honestly believe it was a seamless takeover? Do you not think there was all kinds of palace intrigue and it took Bashar some time to solidify his support? You assume he could do whatever he wanted when he took over. I don't believe that was true. I think about the time the US invaded Iraq, Bashar was probably getting into full control. And you didn't retract your statement Bush has made Bashar one of the bad guys. Do you want to retract it, or do you still want to assume Bashar's failures are someone else's responsibility, and not his own? Let me ask this clearly, did Bush make Bashar one of the bad guys, or did Bashar's actions while in power make himself that way? I think Bush boxed him in to the point where he had to change course. Maybe Bush didn't make him the bad guy he is but he certainly helped him to get worse. Is Bush responsible for who Putin is? No. Is Bush's lack of diplomacy causing Putin to become more intractable and difficult? Yes. I think that's the same with Assad. Bush has the knack for bringing out the worst in people IMO. ted
