"Wonder how they can afford this?"

Actually, they can't. But they are in dire peril of losing their influence in Asia, and they ain't happy. For one, they never really convinced the Chinese that what they did in WWII was totally negated by those two nukes we dropped on them. They've managed to convince themselves they were the true victim in WWII, but the Chinese don't see it that way...

Wonder how they can afford this? Oh right, they don't have a huge "defense" budget.

Report: Japan Eyes Manned Base on Moon

TOKYO - Japan plans to start building a manned base on the moon and a space shuttle within the next 20 years, a newspaper report said Monday.

On the important issues........the issues that will have long term value........other nations are pulling ahead. We are becoming has beens.

Thanks you, Mr. Bush!

JF, Wonder how they can afford this? Oh right, they don't have a huge "defense" budget.

Maybe Japan's imperialistic past, which led to them being the only country ever to get nuked, has something to do with their extreme pacifism.

Think America is no better than imperialist Japan of old? Only if you think Bush is the "next Hitler" ...

And they have one of the best savings rates in the world. That's what kept them alive during their decade long recession.

Thanks to one of my nephews, I get Nat. Geographic magazine. Actually I am glad I do...its a great magazine. I just got the latest issue last week. There was an article about Hanoi.

First of all, whenever I've heard about Saigon, the description is one of a city that's a mess...........particularly back in the days of the war. So I just assumed that Hanoi was worse. And of course, we hardly ever hear about Hanoi.

Much to my surprise......Hanoi is a beautiful city that has worked diligently to protect its older structures even as it grows and becomes a modern city. I couldn't believe the way the author was describing it. A city like this in the midst of our big, bad enemy. And the residents there call the war........the American war.

It seems nothing is the way it appears.
