On the important issues........the issues that will have long term value........other nations are pulling ahead. We are becoming has beens.

You are divorced from reality.

AMAT (a la ETEC systems) can make a machines that write the photomasks that a semiconductor company can shoot light through in order to affect solutions on your wafer that make the eeny teeny ravines that hold the copper that the current flows through, which result in a wafer full of semiconductors. That machine is at the end of the technology food chain that allows semiconductos to become smaller. AMAT (US company) has 70% worldwide market share in that machine, with Japan 25% and a few struggling hi tech broo ha has having the rest.

That machine, made by AMAT, a US company, has more LONG TERM VALUE than anything you can throw at me by another country. Go ahead, try and give me a country that has a technology product that is more important to the world's future than the machine that allows semiconductors to get smaller (and thus cheaper).

Eh, doesn't excite me.
