The first: Capitalism is so attractive that even communist nations are converting;

The second: economic carrots can be used to encourage nations to democracy.

Sure, but nobody is going to argue with either of those statements. When you write clearly, your view becomes a bit innocuous and not very provocative. Of course economic carrots can encourage democracy. So can sticks. Anything MIGHT work in a given situation.......
