Mish thank you for the reply. Now very busy at work but will answer quickly......

No problem
Bear in mind a few things.
When I grew up my dad had a huge freezer on the back porch.
The energy effeciency of that thing now has to be horrendous. When he died a few years ago we threw it away. But anyway, my mom bought stuff on sale and my dad wrapped it in freezer paper, put a date on it and froze it. It would stay for a long long time.

Does anyone even have freezers anymore?
Since we have no kids we can get by with just the freezer compartment of the refridgerator. I do not drink milk nor do I accurately remember prices 30 yrs ago. .69 a half gallon? Was that it? What is it now? The bigger the family, the harder it is to plan ahead, especially without a freezer.

Cheese has gone up for sure. But once a month or so Jewel has cheese (4 different varieties) 2 for 1. Cheeze (unopened - except for shredded) will keep for a long long time so I buy lots of it. I like extra sharp cheddar best.

I can tell you that 5 times in the last 2 months that prices at Jewel did NOT match advertized prices. On three of those occasions the prices at the butcher shop behind the counter did NOT ring up properrly. Was this on purpose or not? Once they claimed thet they were not even aware a sale was going on. This is almost guaranteed to happen on stuff like ".20 off per lb over X# lbs" You NEVER get the discount price ordering from the meat case unless you bitch.

I have seen butt hams advertized at such and such price but all that was at that price was shank hams. That is a ripoff. Butt portion hams are always a better deal for an extra .20 lb or so. To advertize butts but display shanks is criminal. This crap happens all the time. Patron would never fall for it. ggg

Country style ribs is another big bitch of mind.
I do not know how they consistantly do this but they do. In a package of 8 ribs the best two will be on the oustside in full display but the rest of them very fatty. Since this happnes nearly every time it has to be how they purposely cut them. I prefer to pick them out individually if I can. I like the ones that look like miniature pork chops complete with bone. The boneless ones are often very fatty and grissly. When on sale, if you can find a package with 2/3 of them "looking good" that is about the best you can do. I will spend lots of time looking at packages of country style ribs and also bacon. Tip: the best ones are almost always displayed at the left of the package. The worst one at the right end. Look at both ends of a package before buying. If I do not see any overall packages that I like, I will not buy even if on sale. If there is a meat counter I will point to the specific ones I want. The best ones have a bone and look like pork chops IMO.
