The reason that we have SS is because of the need. If you take away SS, the need will still be there. Before SS there were old age pensions...operated by the states. They were needed because folks didn't have any money or jobs ...and they were getting old. A society that does not respect it's elders is in trouble. There's richness in all that experience...and keeping it close to the heart of America makes us stronger...not weaker. Even the right side doesn't have enough votes to put another of Bush's grand experiments to the test. Isn't screwing up foreign policy enough for one president? Orca
