Or they were simply intimidated to do it and therefore powerless. Have you ever heard of the role of Pinkertons in union organizing? Maybe Wal-mart isn't using them yet... perhaps just threatening with closing the store is motivation enough. I don't think it was because of the great medical, vacation and advancement opportunities offered by the company.

Did you ask why the workers voted it down or care? Why did Wal-mart work so hard to keep this an inside affair without any independent review? What carrot did Wal-mart offer to stay non-union? Perhaps the same one here:
