"That's their way of supporting the troops--playing the nanny and saving them from their misguided selves and from their misguided CIC. It's no different from supporting a relative who is living on the streets in the drug culture by dragging him out and sticking him in rehab."

That, to the best of my ability to consider the matter, is the kindest possible way to interpret the slogan. And this is where I started from, not from the extreme of accusing people of hypocrisy. The term has some obvious problems in the area of concept contagion.

'Saving people from their misguided selves' would qualify according to my way of thinking as using a natural term, in a spun way. Most people interpret the term 'support' as doing what you can to help people accomplish goals they have set for themselves. And so when I hear the slogan it sticks in my craw a little.

I can't help but conclude, as Redfish suggested, that the slogan is a little to conveniently associated with self serving agendas on the left as well as on the right to be an innocent comment.
