Jochen, thanks for your thoughtful responses to uw's questions. Very interesting.

Germany may be having some job creation problems, but as far as I am concerned it is one of the most beautiful well run places in Europe. I can't wait to go back and spend a weekend or two in Trier. My wife just returned from a weekend in Stuttgart and absolutely loved it. She reported the people at her hotel were so "professional" and service oriented it was like being back in the U.S.

I hope Germans find a way out of their current economic problems quickly.

By the way, the Ryanair flights to Frankfurt Hahn are one of the best deals going and must be giving a real boost to the southwestern German economy. Every time I pass through the terminals they keep adding space and getting more crowded.

The quality fall of Mercedes has been a disaster for the company and for Germany. I read recently that J D Powers has them down to number twentyeight. They used to be number one. Has the reasons for this been discussed in anything you have read?>
