Was it "guffaw-inducing" when West German held elections and elected Adenauer as head of state in 1949? The concept of democracy was a pretty old one in Germany 1949. Some of the German leading towns had a "citizenship" centuries ago, where voting was institutional. It was not complete - did the black and the women vote in America around 1800?- but the core idea was present. The new right. Unable to distinguish between democracy and worst dictatorships. So "progressive".
