"That something is desired by both libertarians and libertines"

Actually I doubt if even that is true. In my experience quite a few libertines are very authoritarian when it comes to government. Many are against gambling, prostitution or drug use except when it comes to them.

There is no connection between the two, as you have pointed out.

Libertarians do want the entire sex industry and all drugs to be legal. Whether individual libertarians enjoy these thing is a matter of choice, of course. I did not imply that all libertarians were libertines. I understand that it is a philosophy, not a way of life. I am simply asserting that I do not agree with it, that I think it is selfish and that it causes problems for society at the same time it may solve others (for example, making drugs legal takes the criminal element out of them).

Libertarianism is a selfish philosophy because it does not take into consideration that not everyone is capable of achieving at the same highly capable level--that some people do need more assistance from society than others, for many reasons, often beyond the control of the individual. I do not enjoy looking at homeless people (particularly homeless veterans), for example, and believe that in a world with so much wealth everyone should enjoy basic rights like the right to eat and live inside, and medical and dental care. I think the whole society is cheapened under libertarianism. I don't enjoy the social chaos and general ugliness that ensue from selfish philosophies.
