Well, I know my son and daughter were born with different personalities from day one. I don't see any reason dogs would be any different in that regard.

She would be the first to agree they are pain in the butt dogs (for example they have to be caged when their owners aren't around, because they will hurt themselves), but she finds them interesting.

Most dog people perefer the term crate. Crate training is very useful and well accepted. Most dogs I've known who have been crate trained readily jump into their crates when it's time. A crate is cozy - like a den - and it keeps the dog out of mischief when its humans aren't around.
