I think it is extremely important to know what the parents of your puppy are like. If you have kids temperament of the animal is the most important thing- and I disagree with Ms. Woodhouse when she says there are no bad dogs. There are bad dogs, and some breeds- especially the over bred breeds- are more inclined to have such specimens. There are a lot of breeds that are not being over bred, and you are right, there are a lot of choices. As with stocks, people need to do their due dilligence.
