So Karen, what would you do to help the children of the US? The single most important thing we can do is to discourage people from producing them until they have the wherewithal to adequately care for them. If the only hungry kids we had to deal with were the ones who became hungry because their families had unexpectedly fallen on hard times after the fact, it would be an easy job. In the meantime, I would show people how to eat cheaply. There's no excuse for sending a kid to school too hungry to learn. Almost nobody is that poor. You can stand on any corner for five minutes with your hand out and get enough money to give yourself and your kid breakfast. Yes, I know that sounds mean. I'm trying to provide a counterpoint to the whine.
