"I understand why many like you are too afraid to protect yourself, but can't quite figure out why you think others should not be able too." I agree with him on one point. I think we have become so desensitized to threats of violence that we don't take them serious enough. Though gun ownership is fairly common, I believe most people would hesitate to fire one into another human being. Bad guys are much more likely to disarm the holder of a gun than the gun holder is likely to fire it into a bad guy. Most people figure that it is like in the movies. If you point a gun, the bad guy is obligated to take a subdued posture. Such false notions or the slightest hesitation could prove fatal. It would take some pretty drastic events to change that consciousness for the average joe. We have lived in a very decent society where we can feel generally safe and secure for many decades. That could, however, change and so would the outlook of average joe when it does.

You need a gun for protection? If hand guns and semi automatics(need them for camping?) were illegal, you would not need a hand gun for protection. Tell me something, have you ever had your life threaten or a family members life threaten for you to use a hand gun? I am afraid to protect myself? lol! Who is the one who is afraid. Try a tazer gun if you need to feel like a man. I perfer old school, A good old fashion BAT. Your answer is classic REDNECK mentality. typical
