That could be ... reported CPI in Oct/Nov was at the 5.4% annual rate. The surprise was in Dec/Jan. We will get import prices on Friday and CPI next week for Feb (I expect a jump).

You could be right. I know some of my expenses have skyrocketed in recent years (like my health insurance with no claims!).

Luckily I don't drive too much and I'm trying to eat less<g>.

I think it is about 7-8% as well. Do you agree that when the decade began actual and reported inflation were perhaps 2-3%? Yet fed funds rates was over 5% and the stock market was surging. Everything appears to be completely upside down today.
