<biblical teachings about Hell. >

Embarrassed? It is impossible to be informed about the Bible. Which facts and versions would those be that comprise being informed and how would one check them? Too many versions to name. And absolutely no genealogical guidance and cross-referencing. The Lords Prayer is just one example how different books mine what they want - is sin or debt more important? You are a Calvinist I presume. Are the Catholics wrong? Why? They are the heirs of St. Peter.

If I said you understood politics, how would I test you? We could do fact checks, or we could digress into a treatise on polical theory. The facts are that I've analyzed much of the Bible and found it dreary and uninspiring. This is not true of all texts or religions. I'm not fact checking all the people in Exodus who begat people, nor would I count a verbatim recital of the text evidence of a superior understanding. Understanding comes from meaning. It is impossible to take the whole Bible as a document and walk away with meaning short of picking and choosing those lines which resonate with you.

. I was just pointing out that Dante's Inferno was not in line with the biblical teachings about Hell.

Oh really ? And have you read Dante's Inferno at all or ever ?

The Bible is the source of Christian doctrine

Well for a good book of prose, it is a good start I suppose !

It's not fair to hold Christians responsible for a novelists story just because he uses a biblical character.

Nor would I hold them responsible for using Greek Philosophy and terminology , to explain themselves either ! What some call "revelation" ...others may call inspiring allegory, irony, symbolism or metaphor .

;-)

PS: And what about art ? A picture is worth a thousand words after all !
