I only came to my way of thinking after much deliberation. I said on the night of 9/11/01 that we would lose certain rights, and it would probably be necessary to do so in an open society to prevent future attacks. I also later came to the conclusion that we need to do ANYTHING possible to stop a large scale attack, and this might mean that we employ some ugly means to do so. I used to be a pacifist prior to 9/11 believe it or not. But one cannot make peace with someone who will not sit down to talk.
