I have never said it was the most effective means to gather information(it is NOT)....I simply believe it should be something we can use in a dire situation. Unlike you who sticks to absolutism in a chaotic world. Torture does not work. Why try to do something that doesn't yield useful results? It's like attacking Iraq to get Al Qaeda. It does not yield useful results. You Bushies are more concerned with doing something...even if it's wrong. Stop. Breath. Think. This Administration has unleashed a culture of torture at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and elsewhere. That torture mindset has produced a widespread use of torture on innocents. 30 people were killed at Abu Ghraib, the most famous is the ice man of Abu Ghraib. He was not a terrorist. How much information can they get from this guy now? He's dead...iced. How useful was this tactic? Don't you see the danger in unleashing a mindset that torture is an acceptable policy? You cannot beat the truth out of anyone. And certainly beating them to death doesn't work! I'm all for interrogating captives. But the captives in Abu Ghraib were not even screened properly. You have to have a process in place that gathers information effectively. The process that this administration fostered did not accomplish that...it fostered a climate of fascist torture chambers where little or no intelligence was gathered, and mean spirited Hitleresc fantasies were played out.
