I researched some of those involved in the Sundance Channel's film on how we are losing our civil liberities....

Here are some names and info. Representative Peter DeFazio from Orgeon was against voting in the USA Patriot Act when it was discovered that the version adopted by the House and Senate had been altered by Ashcroft. He asked those voting to wait. Out of 485 members, not one read it. DeFazio said the 345 pages that were xeroxed at 3.45 am. needed to be studied..

David Cole, law professor at Georgetown said the implication was that anyone who questioned it was a traitor.

The bill essentially included acts that had been rejected by both houses before 9/11 The new bill provided broad expansion of law enforcement power.

Barbara Oshansky head of the Center for Constitutional Rights spoke about the arresting of immigrants immediately. That their rights and privileges under the constitution Due process of law were flagrantly disregarded.
Vincent Cannistraro Former CIA Director and head of Counter Terrorism spoke about the detainees being held in solitary confinement,light bulbs on around the clock,hands shackle waist to feet.... and the prisoners held for months.

480 were arrested. 640 detained. They numbered over 1000.
