The first wave is the exploding cost of the entitlement programs.

Brooks is making waves out of a few ripples. All they have to do is not steal ("borrow") the money from the social security trust and squander it on wars with very large negative return (ie Iraq).

Put the contributions to SS in a lock box. Reduce spending. Reduce tax breaks for the rich. (Even if you call it an investment - if you don't have the money you can't invest, That may be unfortunate - that is life.).

The second wave is the ever-increasing polarization of the political class.

Oh, and the Republicans are not trying to force their views (God, creationism, abortion, etc) on the rest of us.

How even handed? This David Brooks is such a nice fella.
