Well, yes, but you're not twenty-five anymore. Maybe if you tried to quit now you'd feel different. It sounds like you're having some sort of anxiety reaction. Maybe a counselor could work through it with you so you don't panic without cigarettes. Maybe before you felt out of control, like someone was taking your cigarettes from you, on a subconscious level or something. This time you could visualize you being in control of smoking, and making the decision to stop, so you don't feel out of control.

You have so much to live for--two children who depend on you emotionally and everything.

A big fear of mine is being put in a hospital where I can't get them.

I doubt it would be an issue for you, but prison is another place where smoking is becoming difficult. The Washington State prison system recently went tobaccoless. I'd think that would make for a lot of very edgy, cranky prisoners, at lease intitally.
