If Terri truly wants to die given her present state, it doesn't seem unreasonable to believe that she could blink her eyes or respond in some other manner to questions about how she wants to deal with her life.

You raised an interesting point.

Today her dad said she responded with a smile when he told her that they were going for a ride. If she can smile or laugh in response to something he says, then she should be able to smile or laugh or blink or refrain from same in response to a question about whether she wants to live or die.

Of course, if these behaviors are not responses at all but just incidental body movements, as the experts say, then it won't work. But it would confirm that she's not responding as her parents think.
