I thought China controlled Korea for most of the last thousand years.

If this were true, they'd speak Chinese and not Korean.

Its interesting the physical differences between the Chinese/Korean populations and the Japanese. The Japanese tend to be taller and thinner and more effete looking.

If I recall correctly, I think they say you can take 60% of the Japanese and plop them dowm most anywher in NE Asia and they are indistinguishable from the local population. The Japanese are much more recognizable by clothes and mannerisms than by physical features (relative to the Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese, that is).
