Examples abound. Ignore them if you wish. I've stopped doing research for rightists on SI, because they ignore the results that don't match their preconceived notions. That's why they watch FOX.

There is no law that I know of requires registration of a gun, like registering an automobile. So, after the initial sale by a gun shop, there is no way to track guns. I do not know of any law that requires individuals who sell guns to notify anyone. Coupled with guns lost due to theft, illegal and 'gray area' sales, etc, there is no way for law enforcement to know who has guns, what kind, etc.

Arrogance is in the eye of the beholder. Since gun ownership directly endangers my family, it is indeed an issue I have a valid interest in. If the NRA would support a automobile-style registration and tracking of guns, that would be a great step in the right direction. It would be a fine compromise between those who want to own guns, for protection and sport, and those who don't want their families endangered by their proliferation.
